Weekly Vinspiration #4 - The Cups Estate Pinot Noir 2013 - Mornington Peninsula, Vic

Weekly Vinspiration #4 - The Cups Estate Pinot Noir 2013 - Mornington Peninsula, Vic

June 07, 2016

This wine is from a tiny boutique vineyard on the Mornington which, in itself, is a good start.  The region, moderated by the sea around it, consistently produces pinot noir with weight and finesse in equal proportions.

I have a huge amount of respect for Campbell Mattinson.

He's a terrific communicator.  His words are measured, as are his scores out of 100.  It's why, when Campbell rates wines I tend to seek them out.

Vindependent Reviews - Mitchell Harris Wines

Vindependent Reviews - Mitchell Harris Wines

May 12, 2016

I tried the wines of Mitchell Harris when they unleashed their first babies in 2008.

At that time, I'd just opened the Union Bank Wine Store in Orange, NSW.  I was looking for wines that celebrated the regions from which they came, and producers who understood and appreciated the importance of quality focused, (V)independent retail stores.

More importantly, this is made by Dr Richard McIntyre, one of the pioneers of the region and owner of Moorooduc Estate, whose Estate Pinot was rated by Decanter as one of the best Pinot Noirs outside of Burgundy.

The Vindependent attended a very important 40th birthday last Saturday night.

Usually this milestone celebration is a 21st for adults. Bacardi Breezers and jelly shots are replaced with European or Craft beer; and with hopefully 20 years of wine drinking under their belt, the birthday boy or girl has had long enough to find their vinous groove....

The Rise and RISE of the Adelaide Hills

The Rise and RISE of the Adelaide Hills

January 22, 2016

When friends are planning a trip to South Australia, very rarely am I asked for advice on wineries to visit in the Adelaide Hills.  It's little surprise that the Barossa Valley, closely followed by McLaren Vale, command most attention - and based on history and the new wave of winemakers and wines from each region, the traffic is justified.
